Fledglings

Spring -- a good time to talk about those little feather dusters that you might see hopping around your yard. For the first few days after leaving the nest, fledglings are just learning to fly and may take their chances on the ground. If you're concerned the young bird might be in harm's way, place it in a shrub then leave it alone -- the parents are probably freaking out nearby. Check out this link for more information.

Great advice in that link, Lynn.

Especially in answer to our own youngsters regarding a lost baby bird, when they ask:
"Please...can we keep it??"

When they ask that, Georgie, it's a great opportunity to teach them about nature and wildlife.

Poor fledglings, not really understanding that soon they'll have to get jobs and start planning to build a nest of their own. Enjoy summer while you can, fledglings!

So true, NT, so true.

I got wing-slapped by a crow a couple of years ago--one wing to each side of the head. I'm guessing I was too close to the nest, but maybe it just didn't like my hair....

Lol, Raggs (and wow, because crows are some healthy-size birds!).

Have you considered the fact that this might work another way? I am wondering if anyone else has come across something
like this in the past? Let me know your thoughts...

Hello there,

I have a question for the webmaster/admin here at animalovation.blogspot.com.

Can I use part of the information from this blog post above if I give a backlink back to this site?

Thanks,
Jules
